The Turuk are a hardy and fiercely loyal race from the harsh lands of Magra. Their lives revolve around their Clanz, where respect is earned through contribution, craftsmanship and strength of character. Now settled in Kazug, they carry their traditions and the ancient Endless Ember.

The Turuk are a hardy people whose ancestral homeland is Magra, a harsh land of open plains, rugged highlands and windswept frontiers.

Magra was never one unified kingdom. Instead, the Turuk lived in independent Clanz, each with their own settlements, customs, traditions and leadership. Despite these differences, they shared a wider Turuk identity and would stand together when greater threats endangered their people.

Life in Magra demanded resilience and self-reliance. Turuk learned to hunt, farm, build, craft and survive from what their own lands could provide. These hardships helped shape a culture that values strength, contribution, craftsmanship and loyalty to the Clan.

Different parts of Magra also encouraged different ways of life.

Clanz, Warcheifs & Eldurs

Turuk society is built around the Clan. Each Clan is its own community, with its own traditions, customs and laws. A Clan is more than a bloodline. Turuk may be born into one, marry into one, be accepted into one or swear themselves to its people.

Each Clan is led by a Warchief, who must prove themselves worthy and earn the backing of their people. They are advised by experienced Eldurs, often former Warchiefs or Turuk respected for their knowledge and experience.

No Clan rules over another. When larger matters affect the Turuk as a whole, Warchiefs and Eldurs can gather as the Council of Clanz to settle disputes, face shared threats and make decisions concerning their wider people.

Above all, loyalty to the Clan matters. Abandoning your Clan simply for an easier or wealthier life is considered deeply dishonourable.

Appearance & Character

Turuk are typically powerfully built, with broad shoulders, strong features and a natural capacity for physical endurance. Most stand between roughly 5'6" and 6'0", though some grow taller.

Their skin can vary considerably, including shades of ash grey, pale blue, green and red. Hair, tattoos, markings, scars, braids, clothing and crafted adornments can also differ between individuals and Clanz.

Turuk are known for their distinctive tusk-like teeth, which can range from pronounced canines to larger upper or lower tusks. These are simply a natural part of Turuk appearance and do not represent rank, age, lineage or status.

Turuk commonly live for around 110–150 years, with age often bringing experience and respect. Ultimately, however, a Turuk is judged by the life they have lived and what they contribute to their Clan.

Clan Life, Craftsmanship & Ancestors

Turuk life revolves around contribution to the Clan. Hunting, farming, building, crafting and defending the community are all respected. Strength matters, but Turuk strength is more than physical power — skill, courage, endurance and reliability can earn just as much respect.

Craftsmanship is particularly valued. Clanz strive to provide for themselves wherever possible, and something well made can carry greater importance than its price. Wealth is often reflected through crafted goods, useful possessions and treasured heirlooms rather than extravagant spending.

Family extends beyond the immediate household. Children grow and learn within the wider Clan, with knowledge and skills passed between generations.

Turuk also believe that death does not remove someone from their Clan. Ancestors remain part of the community and are honoured through deeds, stories and by continuing what they helped build.

What your character would know

f you play a Turuk, your character would generally know that:

  • Magra is the ancestral homeland of the Turuk, and most Clanz left when The Fading made remaining there increasingly impossible.
  • Your Clan is central to your identity. Loyalty, contribution and standing beside your people through hardship are deeply important.
  • Each Clan governs itself. Its Warcheif leads, its Eldurs advise, and no Clan has authority to impose its laws upon another.
  • Respect is earned, not inherited. A skilled farmer, hunter, smith or builder can be just as respected as a capable warrior.
  • Self-reliance and craftsmanship matter. Making, repairing and providing for your Clan carries considerable value.
  • Your ancestors remain part of the Clan after death. Remembering their deeds and continuing what they built helps preserve their place among the living.
  • The Endless Ember is an ancient gift belonging to all Turuk. It was carried from Magra and now burns above Kazug.
  • Kazug is a shared home for the fleeing Clanz, not the territory of one Clan and not ruled by a single Warcheif.
  • Turuk historically had little contact with other races, so your character does not need to begin with predetermined friendships or hostilities toward them.
  • Alphos is only the beginning. What the Turuk become here — and how the Clanz interact with the wider world — is something players will help shape through roleplay.
