The Plains of Magra
Homeland of the Turuk
Magra is the ancestral homeland of the Turuk it is a harsh land with wide plains and rugged highlands with windswept frontiers. Across its settlements, timber, sandstone, mudbrick and terracotta were shaped into homes marked by clan colours their carved totems and the fires that burned long into the night. Life in Magra was never easy but its hardship became part of Turuk life, teaching each generation the value of strength, tradition and loyalty to their Clanz.
The Council of Clanz
There is no single throne in Magra. The Turuk are guided by the Council of Clanz, where the leaders of the great Clanz gather to speak for their people and settle matters that concern them all. Even when other Turuk do not disagree with the chosen body in power they comply.
The Council is made up of respected Chieftains and elders who have earned their position through experience, strength and the trust of their Clanz.
The Council are responsible for:- Settling disputes between Clanz
- Protecting their ancient landz
- Guiding Magra through times of hardship
- Speaking for the Turuk as a whole
No Chieftain rules over another Clanz only their own.
The Clanz of Magra
Its Clanz have spread across its open plains, cliffed highlands and deserted frontiers all developing their own customs and ways of life.
The Plains Clanz
The wide grasslands form the heart of Magra. These Clanz are known for their hunters and herders, following the movement of animals and the changing seasons across the open land.
The Plains Clanz are known for:
- Hunting and tracking
- Herding and farming
- Open-air gatherings
- Strong family traditions
They provide much of the food that sustains the Turuk.
The Highland Clanz
Beyond the plains rise the colder and more rugged highlands. Life here demands patience and endurance, with settlements built among rocky ground and steep valleys.
Highland culture is shaped by:
- Stonecraft
- Hunting
- Resilience
- Ancestral traditions
These Clanz are often among the most experienced in surviving Magra's harsher seasons.
The Frontier Clanz
Along the outer reaches of Magra lie the frontier lands, where the weather is harsher and settlements are scattered. These Clanz are accustomed to living with little and making use of whatever the land provides.
The Frontier Clanz are known for:
- Exploration
- Craftsmanship
- Self-reliance
- Protecting their lands
For generations, the frontier has been where young Turuk have gone to prove themselves.
The Present State of Magra
For generations, the Turuk endured the hardships of Magra as they always had. The Clanz hunted, gathered, built and celebrated beneath the open skies. The land provided, and in return the Turuk respected it.
Then came The Fading.
The hunts grew scarce. The soil began to lose its colour, and places once filled with ritual and celebration fell quiet. At first, the Turuk believed they could fight it as they had endured everything else.
But Magra was changing.
When word reached the Clanz of a distant land untouched by the decay, the Turuk did not see only a place of refuge.
They saw an opportunity:
- A new land to claim.
- A new place to build.
- A new legacy for the Clanz.
The first groups gathered their belongings, extinguished their hearth fires and crossed the sea toward Alphos. There, they would build Kazug. And for the Turuk, the story of Magra would not end with their departure.
It would continue wherever their Clanz chose to plant their feet.
