Gror once served as captain of the Granite Guard, defenders of the underground fortress Khardum-Varr. During a siege by deep-dwelling raiders, a trusted thane betrayed the fortress and opened its lower gates. Gror held the Hall of Embers long enough for hundreds of civilians to escape, but his clan's sacred forge was lost.

Now he travels the surface world in search of the traitor and the stolen Anvilheart, an ancient relic said to awaken extraordinary power in weapons forged upon it. Gror carries guilt over those he could not save, though he speaks of the siege only when the fire is low and the company trustworthy.
