Before the fading Versette's life was ordinary as life could be in a decaying society. Help with farmwork throughout the day and enjoy whatever simple joys she had access to at that time. She had visited cities on occasion to help carry produce back and forth but lived in the village. But soon, ambition crept in and she entered military service, utlizing whatever hunting knowledge her father imparted on her to wield a bow in battle. Her life improved, but not to an unreasonable degree, but a full meal was better than half. As soon as the rose tinted glasses began to slip she encountered her first barriers: corrupt officials unable to uphold order, inept soldiers choosing flight over fight, recruits moving through the ranks not through merit, but through bullying, bribery, and family ties.

Although her skills were modest she felt strongly she could do better without rigid structures of the military holding her back. And so, once the news of the first expedition had spread through the town criers, she packed up her belongings and set out towards uncharted lands. This time, there won't be anyone to hold her back.
