The Adventurer's Codex

Mastering the art of Medieval Roleplay requires understanding the boundaries of our world. Click a category below to expand knowledge.

Meta & Powergaming

In Uros, immersion is paramount. This means your character must exist strictly within the confines of a medieval world. Modern concepts, internet slang, or knowledge gained from outside the game have no place here.

Metagaming (OOC -> IC)

Metagaming is using information obtained Out-Of-Character (OOC) to benefit your character In-Character (IC). Your character only knows what they have seen, heard, or learned within the game world.
Remember: Just because YOU see it on Discord, doesn't mean your CHARACTER knows it.

✘ Violation
"I see 'Garreth' on the nametag through a wall. I jump over and say 'Hello Garreth!'"
"I saw on Discord that the bandits are hiding at coordinates 500, 200. Let's go raid them!"
✔ Valid RP
"I check the Map (OOC), then ask a guard IC: 'Which way to Riverwood?'"
"I heard rumors in the tavern that bandits were seen near the old ruins."
Powergaming (Forcing Outcomes)

Powergaming is forcing an action onto another player without giving them a chance to react, or performing superhuman feats without lore backing. You cannot simply "win" because you typed it.
Magic in Uros is rare and strictly regulated by server lore. You cannot invent spells or abilities on the fly.

✘ Violation
"*draws dagger and slits his throat instantly*"
"*summons a fireball and destroys the entire castle wall*" (Without admin approval)
✔ Valid RP
"*attempts to grapple the guard, holding a dagger to his neck*"
"*tries to kick the door open with all his might*" (Requires /roll to determine success)
The Laws of Combat
No RDM
Random Death Match. You cannot attack without a valid RP reason and initiation.
NLR (New Life)
If you die in PvP, you forget the 30 mins leading to death. You cannot return for 30 mins.
PK (Permadeath)
A character's permanent end. Only enforced with consent or during high-stakes events.
Characters
Character Management

Your character is your persona in Uros. You can manage your details using the profile system.

/profile View your character card, stats, money, and switch characters.
/card [player] View the character card of yourself or another player.
/money View money in your pocket vs bank.
/roll [max] Roll a die (default 100). Essential for determining outcomes in combat or chance.
/afk Toggle AFK status.

Use the profile menu to set your Emote Color, view your playtime, or switch between your alternate characters.

Permadeath (PK)

The ability to PK (Permanently Kill) a character is a serious action. It erases the character's progress and story. This is usually voluntary, but can be enforced by staff in high-stakes lore events.

Communication
Chat Types & Styles

We use specific prefixes to determine how you are speaking. Mastering this is key to immersion.

No Prefix Speech: "Hello traveler." (Character speaking normally)
* Personal Emote: *waves hand* (Character action)
** Environmental Emote: **The wind blows hard** (World description)
! Shout: !Guards! Help! (Heard from further away)
? Whisper: ?keep it down. (Heard only very close)
( Local OOC: ( brb dinner ) (Out of character, nearby)
(( Global OOC: (( Has the server restarted? )) (Server-wide)
Chat Management
/chat Opens a menu to toggle/focus specific channels.
/pm <user> Private message to a player (OOC). Goes to inbox if offline.
/bird <char> Sends an IC messenger bird. Takes time based on distance. Birds can be intercepted!
/help [msg] Focus the Help channel or send a message to mentors.

Note: If you are on the edge of a chat's range, text may appear garbled or you might not hear it all. Move closer!

Voices of the Realm

To deepen immersion, consider adopting the linguistic style of your race:

Elfin
Often articulate, archaic, or flowery. "The stars shine brightly upon your path, traveler."
Turuk
Direct, guttural, action-oriented. "Stop. This road belongs to Turuk. Leave gold, or leave head."
Grokon
Deep, sturdy, practical. "Aye, the wall is solid. Took three days to lay the foundation."
Human
Varied based on status. "Look mate, I just sell the apples. I don't ask where they grew."
Economy
Basics
/money Check balance.
/money top See the wealthiest players.
/cheque <name> <amt> Write a physical cheque. Only depositable by the target character at a bank.
Banks & Treasuries

Banks: Safe storage for your coin. No one can steal from your bank account. Visit an NPC Banker to deposit/withdraw.

Treasuries: Shared accounts for groups/towns. Managers can set permissions for withdrawal and viewing. You can also automate salaries to pay members at specific intervals.

Auctions

Visit an Auctioneer NPC to buy or sell items safely. You can list items for sale, place bids on active auctions, or use "Buy It Now" to purchase instantly. Money is automatically transferred to your Bank.

Skills (WIP)

Our skill system allows you to specialize your character. By performing actions (mining, farming, woodcutting), you rank up specific skills.

/skills Open the Skills & Professions GUI.

Specialization: You can select a Primary skill (+20% XP Gain) and a Secondary skill (-20% XP Gain). All other skills gain standard XP.

Available Professions: Farming, Fishing, Logging, Mining, Smithing, Woodworking, Masonry, Weaving, Leatherworking, Cooking, Brewing.

Crafting (WIP)

A fully custom crafting system utilizing custom stations like Anvils, Grindstones, and Furnaces.

Blunt vs. Sharpened: Newly forged tools and weapons may be created as Blunt (Reduced damage/efficiency). You must use a Grindstone to sharpen them before they are fully effective.

Tiered Items: Use materials gathered via the Skills system to produce tiered weapons, armor, and tools. Some high-level items may require components from multiple professions.
